Lounge on 6 – Great Drinks in a Relaxed Atmosphere Overlooking the Myeongdong Madness

High above the clouds, that is where I want to be. Although it is only six floors above the bustling chaos of Myeongdong, it might as well be on another planet. The calm, soothing atmosphere complete with relaxing jazz music and candlelight is as far away from Myeongdong as one can get. The night was young, but growing old with each passing mojito.

How to get there: The easiest way to get there is to take the subway to Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and depart from Exit 8. Take your first left and walk straight for about 250 meters. You will see the sign on street level on your left.

Atmosphere and Service: Wow. What an unexpected surprise. I originally just went up there to have a quick drink before meeting the wife and friends for dinner, but ended up coming back after dinner for a nightcap. When I first arrived around 6pm, there was still daylight and the view outside was amazing, so I gave my drink order and headed up to the roof. The last few remnants of autumn lingered in the air. The ladies downstairs, despite the electrical heater, still had blankets over their legs. My thick Canadian blood allowed me to stay up on the roof for quite some time while sipping away at my mojito. A few minutes of closed eyes reflection, with gentle sounds of soft jazz dancing in the light breeze, was a moment of utopia. Well done Lounge on 6.

Food and Drink: Lots of cocktails, wines, teas, and bottle service at your disposal. They also have a small selection of side dishes such as cheese plates, nachos and fresh fruits at a fairly high price. They did serve complimentary nuts in compliance with most Korean bars.

Classic Mojito (12,000KRW): I was really grasping at the last moments of summer/autumn with this drink selection. The mojito had a generous serving of rum with a lime floating in the glass. Crushed mint was scattered into the drink and a small apple fan at the top gave the drink a little style. The drink wasn’t too sour, the lime juice balanced out the sweetness of the rum. For 12,000KRW I was expecting a lot and Lounge on 6 delivered.

White Russian (10,000KRW): The dude abides. Ah, it was late at night and after dinner a little milk, vodka and Kahlua hit the spot. Jill and I went up to the roof again, so apologies for the darkness of the pictures. My camera was being an uncooperative dick. Anyway, the White Russian was well made. The vodka was a little weak, but the Kahlua was strong and I think Lebowski would be proud. Far out.

Namsan Tower (13,000KRW): This was one of Lounge on 6 signature drinks and what a monster it was. Jill ordered it and only drank a few sips. She said it wasn’t bad, but was overwhelming. Jill thought she tasted vodka and a hint of apple. It was a getting late, but this one I need to try again to really get an accurate reading. Check it out and let me know.

Value: Overall, this was approximately 40,000KRW. I ordered two mojitos, maybe three. I honestly forget. It was a blur after dinner. The view makes this place worth the extra you are going to shell out on the drinks. The atmosphere is awesome and is definitely worth a quick stop just to say you were there. That said, I don’t know if I would want to go here too often. Lounge on 6 can empty out the pockets real quick.

Who Should Visit Lounge on 6: A great date place with a romantic vibe and the view to match. A nice place to catch up with a friend. Lounge on 6 is very chill and it could be easy to talk the night away.

Who Should Avoid Lounge on 6: This could really wear down the wallet quick. Pre-drinking at the various bars or convenience stores might be an option if you are on a budget. Good luck partner.
