Sorry for the delay in this post, it’s been a whirlwind of a couple of days. Tip for all you parents out there: if you have an 18-month old a transpacific flight for nine hours, and then a transcontinental for five hours, stop for the night. Anyway, we are at home in Boston, devouring some great food and enjoying the weather, but I miss Seoul already. Anyway, if you are craving a sweet treat, Sugar Daddy has moved it’s location from tucked in behind the McDonalds on the main strip of Itaewon to the back alleys of Itaewon.
How to get there: The easiest way to get to Sugar Daddy is to take the subway to Itaewon Station (Line 6) and depart from Exit 1. Now walk straight for about 250 meters until you see the ABC shoe store on your right. Make a right up the alley and walk pass Grill5Taco and MyChiChis on your left and the CU convenience store on your right. About 100 meters up the hill and you will Sugar Daddy on your left, on the second floor across from Belgrade.
Service and Atmosphere: As with my previous visit the service was great and the owner spoke great English. The new interior is a little more sleek and less playful than their old location, but it still had that touch of playfulness that we’ve grown to love about Sugary Daddy over the years. The bright colours are still there and the cute cupcakes with cartoon characters reflected of your childhood are still behind the glass display cases. But the interior is a little darker, with a touch of cool and hip about it. It’s a nice balance.
Food and Drink: I have a confession to make. The photos that you see below are actually desserts from their old location. When I visited the new one, I had just finished a food tour and was about to collapse like a dying star, so I just had a juice and took a red velvet to go.
Red Velvet Cheesecake (7,000KRW): Well, their signature cupcake has now grown into a full cake, and personally, I couldn’t be happier. Simply put, this cheesecake is one of the best cakes I’ve had in my life. Cutting through the cheesecake was like cutting warm butter. It was soft, moist and had the perfect amount of cream cheese. A little chocolate drizzle tops it off perfectly.
Chocolate Banana Brownie (Approx 7,500KRW): Forgive me gentle reader, I forgot the receipt back at the restaurant and this is an estimate. That said, the Chocolate Banana Brownie could very well be my new favourite dessert. The brownie with moist with an thick fudge topping. Strawberries and bananas cover the brownie (and the plate) and as with the cheesecake, is drizzled in chocolate sauce.
Value: Sugar Daddy has added more fruit juices, coffee and beer! Winning! 24,000KRW for two desserts and two drinks could be considered a little steep, but really, if you are going to Sugar Daddy, spending the extra moneys is a good idea.
Who Should Visit Sugar Daddy: Still the best desserts in Itaewon! Now bigger and sweeter.
Who Should Avoid Sugar Daddy: Diabetics will be really, really sorry.
